Celebration of the 80th Independence Day of India

1. The Consulate General of India, Dubai, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India today with patriotic fervour, pride and a strong sense of community spirit. The celebrations brought together members of the Indian community, students, community organisations, officials and friends of India at the Consulate premises.

2. The morning began with the newly appointed Consul General, Dr. E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, offering floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, followed by the other Consuls. The Consul General thereafter proceeded to the flag-hoisting area, where students presented a soulful rendition of Vande Mataram, marking the 150th anniversary of the national song. The National Flag was then unfurled by the Consul General, followed by the National Anthem, filling the gathering with a deep sense of pride and patriotism.

3. The Consul General subsequently addressed the gathering and read out the Address to the Nation delivered by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on the eve of Independence Day. In his remarks, he conveyed his warm greetings to the Indian community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates and reflected on India’s remarkable journey over the past eight decades. He highlighted the aspirations of a confident and forward-looking India and the collective resolve to realise the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

4. The Consul General also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of the Indian community in the UAE, whose dedication and achievements continue to strengthen the enduring bonds of friendship between India and the UAE.

5. The celebrations continued in the auditorium with a vibrant cultural programme. Members of the Indian community presented two specially curated dance performances on the theme of Independence Day, celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage, diversity and the timeless spirit of freedom. The performances added colour and energy to the celebrations and brought the gathering together in a shared expression of love for the nation.

6. The programme also featured the Bharat Ko Jaaniye (BKJ) Quiz Competition, encouraging participants to deepen their knowledge and appreciation of India’s history, heritage, culture and achievements. Five winners were felicitated by the Consulate General in recognition of their outstanding performance and enthusiastic participation.

7. The spirit of Independence Day extended across the Northern Emirates, with Consuls and Vice Consuls participating in flag-hoisting ceremonies at various locations. The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Indian community and reflected the strong sense of connection, unity and pride shared by Indians across the UAE.
